The Inheritance Game — Episode 5: Theo's Secret

No game tonight. A storm knocks out the power and Maya corners Theo in the candlelit wine cellar: why did Rosa really invite him? Theo confesses that his food truck was failing and Rosa secretly paid his debts, and that shame, not another woman, ended their marriage. They almost kiss, the lights come back on, and a red envelope slides under the door.

Episode transcript

Maya: Why did Rosa invite you?
Theo: Maya, it's complicated.
Maya: Then tell me the truth. For once.
Theo: Two years ago, my food truck was failing. I owed money. More than you knew. Rosa paid everything. She saved me.
Maya: And you never told me? ... You let me believe you didn't trust me.
Theo: I was ashamed. I thought you'd see me as a failure.
Maya: I didn't need your money, Theo. I needed you.
Theo: I never stopped loving you.
Maya: Then why did you let me go?
Theo: (reading) "Final game. Tomorrow. Only one of you wins."
